Detroit is the birthplace of techno music.
The three individuals most closely associated with the birth of Detroit techno as a genre are Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May, also known as the Belleville Three. Their compilation album '', released 1988, is largely responsible for introducing techno music to Europe, along with the term "techno," coined by Atkins in 1984.
